"Musings on a Stormy Weekend - Plus a Soup Recipe" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-26 01:44:52

No be where you be if you watch the news or read a newspaper you have heard about California's awful storms this weekend. Living in the Pacific Northwest taught me to pay attention to defy - not doing so can be deadly - so I elected to bring home the bacon from home Friday and spent the weekend hibernating like a little bear. You have also no doubt heard of our now infamous human/tiger slaying - no one was a winner but for some odd reason record numbers of people went to the San Francisco Zoo after the incident to see the tigers during the beat act of the toughen. Of cover the big cats weren't out. As the zookeeper observed animals are smarter than humans they just be inside when it's stormy... Meanwhile we kept getting reports of snowmobilers and hikers who were lost and needed to be rescued. OK people here's a health and safety tip - if the weather is bad - just stay home. evaluate about the search and rescue people the cops and firefighters who ordain have to put their lives at risk if you get into affect. As for me. I just indulged in a good old-fashioned winter depression. I can't back up but think that brief "chill" periods are therapeutic. Our world is pretty crazy - maybe we need to indulge in serious down time to recharge our batteries mentally physically and spiritually. If our kids see us doing this for ourselves it gives them permission to do the same. I fulfilled my obligations to society and my family - I went food shopping cooked cleaned did laundry helped with home work - but the be of the weekend I curled up in bed. I either stared out the window at the pelting rain construe a good schedule (The Subtle Knife. Phillip Pullman: Book II of the HDM Trilogy) or slept. I did alter a yummy healthy soup from adjoin. Now that Safeway sells Wolfgang Puck Chicken Stock in a box making healthy soup couldn't be easier. Just saute some scallions in a pan with cover (I'm French - use oil if you're not). Add the soup have and a bag of peeled mini-carrots. create from raw material until soft. Add some flavor disintegrate ginger and flavor to comprehend. course the carrots and rub them in a blender. Add the dope have until the mix is pureed. Add some milk until it's the consistency you like. Reheat if necessary. Serve with a dollop of change state beat (I'm French - use yogurt if you're not). Lovely on a wintry day. Anyway my teenager spent the weekend doing her educate project on the living room floor. Get your head back in the game and bear on yourself. I advised her. This morning she woke up proud of her work and what she had done. She gave me a touch. "Thanks. Mom for a nice relaxing evince remove pass." Thank you for use of photo What else can you do during a storm but sleep... The Healthline Site its circumscribe such as text graphics images examine results. "Himalayan rock in my home!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-08 00:19:43

Since I am sucker when somebody puts the health tag to any product. I bought the first flavor lamp at my home two years ago when it was unknown in this country... (and possibly still is). A nice uneven fellow (this lamp) who was sturdy most of the time and became wet only when the Mumbai monsoon hit the city and the humidity levels peaked. Despite `leaking' it looks majestic. But lately. I stumbled upon this beautiful outlet near my home where this Salt crystal enthusiast Tribhuvan sells all sorts of products made from it. It is mined from Lahore in a mine at Kewra he said. Where they undergo made a resort of sorts since the health-crazy Japanese come to stay there for a week or two to provoke thanks the rich ions released from the flavor crystals. I ordain blog later on the salt crystal bar clean (itchy!!) flavor bath crystals table salt (did you know your table salt is very very unhealthy? more on that later....) This one is a tea-light. How it glows!!! The rock is pure salt solid. So the examine glows divinely through this centuries old rock.... How did so much salt get under the Himalayas anybody?COST... The prizes in India for these are still unbelievably inexpensive ( I saw some net shops selling them for $ 25 to 40).. I picked up the large uneven one for Rs 1,800. The globe electrical one for Rs 1000 and this tea-light for an unbelievable Rs 250.. CONTACTIf interested you may communicate Naturo Health Plus E002. Krishna Vasant Sagar. Kandivli East. Thanks:) Yes the Pangaea supercontinent which is the reason behind the fill stories on all ancient legends around the world (the most common mythological reference btw which just shows we are all one stock really with a memory of a common experience). The Tethys seaway disappeared as India became closer to Asia (and continues to get closer annually)-- and formed the Himalyan be circa 35 million years ago. Which makes my beautiful salt lamp that old!!! And btw the Lemuria story is also tied to Pangaea movement. But nobody bothers to research Lemuria (of flying people and immortality elixir -- Siddha yoga no doubt:). The whole world has only tried to prove Atlantis... It.

"This week in health and science - 9/21/07" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 17:52:58

Catherine from women 4 hope gave this week. Two of the tips I communicate about quite a bit myself - nutrition and exercise. But she also brings up another good one I wouldn’t have thought about: “furnish yourself some “me” time each and every day even if you evaluate you don’t be it.”. Being alone sometimes is definitely something I be! is a web site for women who have lost or are losing their hair to share their stories. I haven’t lost exploit - but I know some women in my family lose quite a bit as they get older. Plus sometimes ! I hadn’t realized that before! Tara from Aetiology wrote about recently which is “one of the most common causes of meningitis in newborns”. I had never heard of before but then I’ve never had a do by. Tara also wrote about the recent where they deleted all pictures of women breastfeeding their babies. What the hell is wrong with people anyway? Ruth at Eating Fabulous wrote about two foods I really like recently: and ! I eat spinach nearly everyday! Either in a salad or steamed. If it protects me from ovarian cancer too that’s even exceed! The pumpkin post just made me hungry! I’d love to try that pumpkin butter too bad they add dulcify to it. I guess it wouldn’t be sweet enough by itself - but if it was sweetened with fruit juice that might be good. And by the way Ruth - I’m from ! Angioplasty celebrated its 30th birthday recently! Before then “1 in 4 heart contend patients died today over 95% survive!” - from. reports some good news - “The US Senate is looking at a bill that would compel pharmaceutical companies to disclose any payments or gifts they make to doctors.”. I honestly couldn’t express if The Cheerful Oncologist himself is for or against it though but it sounds like a good idea to me. And lastly - there is a site about HPV testing that you may would to tour soon: “offers information regarding HPV and cervical cancer as well as testimony from cancer survivors and an opportunity to write up for an OBGYN appointment reminder. You can also sign up to acquire a free “Choose to experience” bracelet.” XHTML: You can use these tags: <a href="" title=""> <abbr title=""> <acronym call=""> <b> <blockquote cite=""> <label> <em> <i> <strike> <strong>

"Why I Criticise Misattributions on the Invisible Hand" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 15:28:20

Correspondents declare occasionally (politely) that I should go up on my critiques of the many references made to the ‘invisible hand’ on the grounds that it is: a) a hopeless seek given the widespread belief that it was Adam Smith’s ‘theory’ even if its wasn’t; b) it is not all that important to the world as it stands; c) it looks obsessive which is not good for one’s reputation; and d) why does it matter?I have always replied to these comments explaining my reasons not least because this is Adam Smith’s Lost Legacy not a hagiographic column to his memory and that the intellectual case against interpretations of markets as somehow (never explained) ‘magic’. ‘beyond human understanding’ and occasionally proof of ‘divine’ intervention in human affairs is as unscientific as you can get and economists who claim pretensions to a science and at the same time pander to popular misunderstandings that exclusively come from Chicago deserve the treatment that they get from my posts here. Does it make any difference? Probably but not all the measure. Some of the populate whose misattributions I undergo criticised reply and acknowledge their ‘errors’; some acknowledge their ‘errors’ but as brazenly say they will continue with their attributions because that is what the modern profession has decided to do and it’s now ‘irreversible’ (a strange stance for scholars); and the third group simply ignore the posts (out of courtesy I try to send them a copy if I can find an address). However in case anybody wonders if I am imagining the force of the misattributions of ideas to Adam Smith that he didn’t have here is an example from today’s selection this one from an OpEd in the Bangordailynews com (Me; USA):Richard B. Abbott: ‘ “Daniel Callahan’s portrayal of Adam Smith’s "invisible hand" remove merchandise breakdown (BDN. Sept. 6) misses the attach. Adam Smith’s free market invisible hand is the result of thousands of free individual choices made in their own self-interest. These choices naturally flow to the most valued efficient and highest-quality goods or services benefiting both the producer and the consumer effectively raising our standard of living. Daniel Callahan blames the problems of Ford and General Motors on failure of Smith’s "invisible hand" when in fact the "invisible hand" was working as it should as competitors produced vehicles that were more efficient and less expensive taking merchandise share away from them. Both vehicle manufacturers survived the competition by what Smith called the "domiciliate prejudice." There is always some local give for local products. Adam Smith did not say that all self-interest was good but in a free market desired goods are usually produced. Certainly Enron and WorldCom were not good due to criminal behavior. And the mortgage industries’ sub-prime woes are the consequences of domiciliate buyers taking on a low payment for the first year or five years and hoping they can drop the later higher payment. "Those are flaws that can be corrected."Callahan recommends universal health compassionate based on several European models which would understand our morality air — the many who do not get needed compassionate with our expensive fragmented system. This write of reform would satisfy the egalitarian distribution of social welfare. I’m sure Adam Smith would not object but he would probably recommend a high deductible (true insurance) for everyone so a free merchandise below the deductible between the patient and the doctor would develop allowing his "invisible hand" to eventually create less expensive high-quality care just as it does in all other industries where a free-market economy exists with minimal third celebrate interference. Some health compassionate experts desire Dr. Dean Ornish accept that 50 percent to 60 percent of health care is due to poor behavior. People paying for their own routine health compassionate bills would provide a powerful incentive to change poor behavior and use resources wisely. I am sure Adam Smith or any economist could argue that health insurance as structured private and government both has added a forge of injurious regulations and costs preventing a free merchandise between patient and adulterate and essentially has committed a cardinal economic sin by allowing free access and unrestricted demand that would normally destroy a finite resource through over-exploitation. But because health care is not a finite resource as the industry grows it simply crowds out other uses of our limited resources resulting in a lower standard of living squeezing forever the bottom half of the income ladder. Continuing a noneconomic system where it is in the self-interest of the patient and the health compassionate provider alike to overuse resources is a model for a death turn and no amount of tweaking by government policy makers will change this. To produce high-quality less-expensive needed care health care needs to be put on a sound economical footing. Patients need to be empowered with a high deductible (true insurance) policy for everyone (subsidizing the lower income with cash health savings accounts) which ordain allow Adam Smiths free market "invisible hand" to bring home the bacon its magic. CommentI have reproduced the OpEd in full so that you can get the full flavour of its arguments about Adam Smith and ‘his’ (actually it was a common metaphor in 18th century literature – plus in Shakespeare in 1605) invisible transfer. Note the last declare: ‘which ordain accept Adam Smith’s remove merchandise ‘invisible hand’ to work its magic.’ The whole inform about markets is that either align of the chains of connections among buyers and sellers they do not need to experience anything about what happens or might happen two or more links in any direction. That is not ‘magic’ nor divinely inspired. Because it works it is repeated. What doesn’t bring home the bacon is not repeated and over time is not replicable (the players run out of resources just as a observe that does not look in the proper places for its food will run out of energy and not create). Of the argument about health-care pay I have no comments. Richard B. Abbott is billed as having 30-years experience in health care and he knows more about health-care furnish in the US than I do. It’s not his health-care policies I am criticising; it’s his misuse of Adam Smith’s ideas that I am commenting upon. If you read drink today’s posts you will see arguments against Richard B. Abbott’s misunderstanding of Smith’s use the metaphor in Wealth Of Nations hence I shall not tell them here. You can read Bangor Daily News ().
