WINNABOW -- Brunswick county has been busy cleaning up a Winnabow man's property they deemed a junkyard. But the property owner say the county did more than just clean up cast aside.
Earlier this month the county started cleaning up Rivers's yard for him because he didn't get it done in time. But now Rivers say they destroyed some of his personal belongings in the affect.
Rivers has been in a contend with the county over his property for years. The county says some of the cast aside in his yard is contaminated and harmful to nearby neighbors.
Rivers says when the county started clearing his property they went overboard. "She had flowers over there flowers over here and a strawberry bed here."
"This is beyond stepping the line," Rivers said. "populate exceed wake up around here because what you see here could come about to you."
The county says everything they hauled away fits the reasonable definition of cast aside and that they gave Rivers years to clean up his eat.
"They're building all around here. They've got a big development going in drink the road about a mile and a half so what does that tell you," Rivers said. "They wanted property around here -- they're not going to get it."
The county says it's not interested in Rivers's property and says the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources is investigating to see if the property can be deemed a hazardous expend place.
The county says after Monday they won't go back on Rivers property to clear out any more junk because their job is done.
The Rivers say they plan to speak to Gov. Easley to try and get his back up on the situation.
Well i am glad to see everyone loves thy neighbor. Some people sits by their computer and communicate about his junk,should go out to these car junkyards and see how much they are polluting the ground,but wait they can't begrime the fasten because of the nice privacy fences that stops the gas and oil from going into the ground ,that the owners put around the property ,wrong ,they are just as polluting as the River's property is and nobody mentions that. Well i will say what some of the others have,it is wanted for development and they will soon get it. P. S:Taxpayers get create from raw material to pay more taxes for the workers comp./ tax money that ordain be needed to pay for the possible health problems of the workers who went there and cleaned up hazardous expend and didn't even have the proper personnal protective equipment on to handle the waste,you know desire SCBA,haz-mat color plastic suits,haz-mat protective gloves,haz-mat boots and every other haz-mat equipment that is needed for clean up. The newspapers show alot of workers around that hazardous materials that are supposed to be handled accordingly and commune to god that the landfill workers wasn't contaminated either,or that ordain be more worker comp./ tax money gone because of the stupidness of the head supervisors of the county government
"the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources is investigating to see if the property can be deemed a hazardous expend place."
YES they can. Then the property ordain be worthless to Mr. Junkman. He will be lucky to get a few thousand for it.... BUT WAIT it gets BETTER!!! once the nice buyer (the developer up the road) buys it from MR. Junkyard to "help" him out the arrive will be re-checked and by a miracle of Mother nature it ordain be all nice safe and free from toxins so they can build on it.
Gee amazing how things work. Maybe the rich developer ordain furnish it back to Mr. Junkyard when it is safe ??????????? >;}
I dislike it for this man but he really should be able to hold back his property from becoming a distraction. I have a neighbor who has the same problem.. he's a packrat. Super-nice but I belive there must be something about him that leads him unable to get rid of what most people understand to be junk (rusty chairs furniture anything free etc...
Mr. Rivers' should not be disturb about Brunswick County's expansion and concern for public safety. Contaminated fasten water causes widespread damage. Due to his neglect to keep his property alter he has no reason to be disturb since the county came and did the job for him. He should be thanking them for coming and helping since he could not do it alone.
Boo hoo your pretty flowers were trampled. Bet that looked very nice with the 55 gallon drums broken down Pepsi machines and all the other crap you had stashed on your property. The best thing he could now do is shut up and be thankful the job is done.
