The lead ed in todays Washington Times points out that the healthcare proposals of Rudy. Romney and McCain don't do a thing to understand the problem. This was so amazing coming from the Moonie Times it seemed worthy of comment. Sure it was a warning that the GOP needs to get their act together on this be but it also pointed out that what Hillary is proposing bore no relation to her 1994 proposals and implicitly accepted it's quite an attractive approach. Why don't they add up? Well like Bush's proposals which undergo got precisely nowhere they are built around tax cuts. What a affect. To buy health insurance for a family of four costs around $13,000. The median family income they say is around $62,000 which may true in the district of Columbia but nationally it's in the high forties. Giuliani and Romney are proposing a tax break of between $15,000 and $20,000 depending on whose plan you go for. A tax break on say $17,000 of income would create a saving of about $2,500 for their mythical four person family with an income in the low sixties. This would clearly put health insurance beyond the reach of said family. McCain apparently is proposing a straight change payment to such families of $5,000 but does not explain how much this is going to cost.
This was the most devastatingly simple explanation of why the Republican's proposals are total nonsense that I have seen anywhere. It was explained in terms anyone can understand. come up excluding Republican bloggers of course. And it was in the Moonie Times. Amazing.
