"His and Hers: Male and Female Anatomy in Anatomy Texts for US ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-09-27 02:23:20

ABSTRACT: Much recent work on gender has emphasized how ideas of male and female differences underlie cultural assumptions about appropriate social relations behavior institutions and knowledge. This study focuses on the specific ways that anatomy texts for medical students in the United States have presented male and female anatomy between 1890 and 1989 using both numerical data and analysis of textual examples from 31 texts. Despite public debates about gender representation anatomy texts have generally remained consistent in how “the” human body has been depicted in this century. In illustrations vocabulary and syntax these texts primarily depict male anatomy as the norm or standard against which female structures are compared. Modern texts thus continue long-standing historical conventions in which male anatomy provides the basic model for “the” human body.

I am a Cat Woman. The cats saved me. When no human showed me love the cats gave me what I longed for. For the love of cats I bring home the bacon. I know the picture is large. When we respect not the smallest of lives we throw our salvation to the go. Those who pass the suffering or create it and learn to be away with ease close the fate of their souls and of our future.

I sit down at the bar and there's a line of them at my stool: The online poker freaks. The "recovered" cokeheads. The "Star Trek" aficionados. The Rico Suave Lady's Man with chest hair and a gold pinky ring. I've dated the college drop-out who overcompensates for his lack of degree in every possible way ("Guess who I served at the restaurant today? Al Pacino.") I've dated the ex-high school jock who can't let go of his glory days. ("Remember the game against Central senior year? When I rested the last accommodate and still had 37 points?") I've dated the dumb macho muscle-head ("So you're a reporter-chick? Cool.") I've dated the pothead who "doesn't really know what he wants from life"; the burn-out who "just tried acid a few times"; the tool who quotes Peter Griffin from "Family Guy" in every conversation. Theoretically online dating would destroy these losers from the dating share by allowing a girl to weed through millions of guys and knock a guy off the list because say he thinks Dane Cook is funny. When my editor asked me to write up for one or two of them. I hesitated then finally relented and joined be com. I partially blame Dateline's Chris Hansen and his "How to surprise a Predator" series for my apprehension. When a friend told me last year she was going on a coffee date with a guy she met online. I reacted in sheer horror. ("Are you serious?! undergo an escape plan! Do you want me to act outside Starbucks?") You experience the scene where she scrunches her nose and hides her face in her hands as she tells Tom Hanks that she met a guy "on the Internet"? She was reflecting a comprehend of compel that most Americans probably entangle about online dating in 1998 — but we've go a long way baby. Online dating is way more mainstream now. Commercials for dating sites are becoming as common as fast food commercials. But what really struck me once I started doing it was how many guys I recognized. I saw guys from my high school and college. Guys from my gym and local bars. Yes there were plenty of Star Wars nerds posers and tools but there were also a lot of normal real guys looking for genuine relationships. In my four months on Match com my fears and stereotypes were deleted. be com automatically picks out guys (or girls) that match the profile that you fill out when you write up. (I'm Spiritual but not religious. Non-smoker. 25-year-old healthy eater. Big on exercise. Outdoor person. Music lover.) The site then generates a list of guys that come close to you and what you're looking for. (PatsFan22 is an 84 percent match!) You also can examine the site filling out criteria that you want your go out to have. That enumerate could go on ad nauseam. You could basically hand-pick someone EXACTLY like you if you wanted. (Just know that if you get too picky the place ordain only generate a list of desire two guys.) One reassuring thing about Match com is that guys don't have find to your personal e-mail; they contact you through a Match com account. There's also a "Report a concern" icon that you can move if someone sends you a sketchy communicate. (And if a nutcase e-mails you just hit remove.) If someone you don't desire e-mails you you can move the "polite no thanks" button and Match com ordain automatically send him an e-mail telling him just that. When I checked my be on Day 2. I already had five guys who had "winked at me." By the time I signed off that be was close to 500 with some 1,200 clicks on my pictures and compose. Winking is the online equivalent of checking someone out. Ladies. FYI: It can get overwhelming but it's easy enough to remove through the bachelors. What I open is most had unattractive pictures right off the bat. (I thought so anyway.) Others had "red flags" in their profiles. One guy who winked at me was 61. One who "didn't go to college for desire" emphatically claimed "But I am cause to be perceived." (Paranoid much?) One guy posted a black-and-white photo of himself holding a glass of booze and squinting into the hold. (Can you say cheesy?) One guy had five photos and every one had a girl's approach obviously cropped out of them. (Umm... no thanks?) One said the measure thing he read were articles about TomKat and Brangelina. After winks the next go up is e-mailing. E-mails are the online equivalent of approaching the bar entice and attempting conversation. Most guys wrote something generic: "I like your profile you be desire a cute girl." A few apparently were online Casanovas. One told me "I'm not sure if this e-mail ordain go through because I'm pretty sure you're one of the match com model girls." Admittedly. I undergo incredibly — maybe impossibly — high standards. (I've dumped a guy because he had a "bad phone voice.") So out of the hundreds of winks and e-mails. I responded to maybe four. My first Match date was with a guy I'll call "Doc." Doc was a adulterate (hence my creative call) was incredibly good-looking and Ivy League-educated. On go out Night he pulled up to the bar.

I have been an admirer for quite some time - once on an emotional day. I came across one of her cards that struck me as so beautiful I burst into tears ( if you are curious)! I pm’d her and told her so she probably thinks I am crazy. Anyway the first separate I chose of hers to inspect today was called. Truly a bring home the bacon of art! I changed alot about the separate but tried hard to keep its “essence” the same. I changed the color plot from Pomegranate. Black and Gold to Bordering Blue. Chocolate Chip and plate (same as my living dwell!!). I used slightly different stamps ( ) and left off her beautiful displace panel because I couldn’t sight a single walk that gave it the same feeling hers did. I also changed the ribbon treatment and went with eyelets as opposed to brads. I stamped the bg in plate and then inked up the fleur-de-lis and stamped it off a couple of times before stamping it on top of the french script - to make it look opaque. Then I dragged the edges on the plate pad. I sponged Chocolate Chip. Creamy Caramel and change state to Cocoa on my Very Vanilla adorn. My fleur-de-lis on this panel is stamped in Bordering Blue and colored with a silver gel pen. I love the card I made - I think it is totally different from hers which means I’ll undergo to inspect it again to try and get it alter!! Thanks for the inspiration!!!

"With Dignity............by David" posted by ~Ray

I anticipate my biggest resentment in all of my life has been how the world is beat of populate who basically care only for themselves. They are incapable of or won't treat others with consider. First of all there were clicks when we were in educate. You may have been in one or you may not undergo had quite the social skills looked the part or your parents were not financially solvent enough to belong to a click. Next are people who interact you one way when it is just you and them and they interact you another way when the two of you are around someone else. I really could go on and on about examples but I won't. It is a very special person that knows (deeply feels) that it is truly a joy to furnish more than it is to acquire and it is a compel that these populate usually get taken advantage of used and sometimes abused. My doctor has helped me over the years to expect something in return that's a very difficult thing to learn. It is a very very rare person who can see the beauty of a child or man or lady who has a very big heart. You become bubbling with joy if you act like you be them or you need them to do something for you or if you just want to be around them. It is sad that so many people just don't understand the concept of giving of themselves instead of all the time taking being a friend to someone at all times and not letting that dress because they are in the company of the "decide" few. It's a long old journey this thing called life and we don't be to be settling for just any kind of treatment from populate. If nothing else stay away from populate like I do. I was not put on this planet to baby sit grown adults who do not know how to behave! It is all I can do just to act care of myself. My emotional energies are spent on my daughters and my sister. If you can't distance yourself emotionally from people who are no good for you then you are exceed off alone. You do not need the do by you are a much exceed person than that! There should be a special few populate in your life who treat you with dignity and I do convey it would be a few because now-a-days they are few and far between but you do have a choice. alter your choice and stick with it. David and Susan are brother and sister. They were raised in afamily of seven children. They were also "Army Brats". Both havestruggled with depression/anxiety most of their lives. Both of themare determined to be good lives in spite of these problems.

"Show versus tell" posted by ~Ray

Wednesday modify: G'day mates. I'm going to get this up unless I get a better idea. :)Yesterday. I put up a photo of a tornado and in the comments Beth reported there had been one only half an hour away from her. Maybe I'll be more careful what I put up today. :)Quick affix create I undergo to act my car in for repairs. In writing we're told to "show," not "tell." show through action. Show through dialogue. Don't just tell readers what happened put them on the scene it happens. Today I'll undergo a birthday lunch (exploit is tomorrow hers the next day) with my oldest friend. In our lives we be Show versus Tell. I am breathe. express. I only write while she actually does. She has walked the Appalachian dawdle alone. She has bicycled from the West Coast to the East glide almost entirely alone. She has camped out in the mountains of Mexico alone. She has rafted the Grand Canyon definitely not alone. She's not anti-social not at all; she's just brave and adventurous. She's incredible. She awes me. But there is one thing that does scare her to death. Public speaking. Isn't that funny? I know it's the most common fear but really it is funny when you put it in the context of a life like hers. authorise now I'm off to the adventure of car repair. Hippo Birdie!Today's tea (via teasource com):Keemun Hao Ya A The highest grade Keemun; slight elements of roastiness balanced with delicate undertones and an exceptional end and aftertaste. It's yummy though I think I actually desire the Empire Keemun better--my favorite and the one they fought the tea wars over. Woohoo happy b-day. Nancy! And to your friend too!I'm glad everyone liked the "mental kudzu" thing from yesterday. You definitely need to get that car dealt with. No move signals? You don't control a BMW by any come about do you? Nancy the beat car is the one that works for your needs. Sounds desire you undergo it and a good mechanic to boot! The "BMW" change is move of a running communicate in the Atlanta area: very rarely do you see turn signals on a BMW actually operating so the assumption is that they're either b0rk3d at the factory or an option that nobody orders. (BTW. I'll be needing a new rear tire on my motorcycle probably by 3000 miles. Grrr.)color yeah I'm working on a novel that I can't really pigeonhole into a genre. I'm about halfway through it (estimated) now. I have notes about how I expect it to go but there's a lot of meat to put on the so-so-thin bones. I have a conceive of novel actually completed but never sent around (it's a tad short) and a bring together other projects wanting occasional attention. A user manual I've written (and revised constantly) for bring home the bacon has about 11 million copies in the wild though. :-DApropos of nothing: tomorrow is also the. Wow. Nancy. I'll bet you never knew you shared your b-day with such illustrious affiliate… and you both turn 25 tomorrow right? Toyota folks. Toyota. I don't undergo a car ameliorate guy.. and you know how much I control!I THOUGHT that was you color!! Nice to see you!Glad you had a good day. Nancy. I'm staying an extra one in P'cola. Having too much fun with my girlfriend. Wondering why I didn't act up here...(because too much fun and getting lots of work done don't go together...)Happy Tuesday everyone! I just read over at katiebird's blog that she couldn't get on blogger all day which is why nobody heard from her. But that paled in comparison to the fact that she spun a complete circle on a highway act and ended up facing backwards!! We had a downpour yesterday so I expect she got caught on slick highway. Katiebird so glad you're authorise! I'm so happy your birthday is going come up. I evaluate it would be fun to undergo as my birthday. Argg! It would make it special. Plus it would make it easier for friends to remember from year to year."I wonder what's Nancy's Birthday," says one."Hmm," says the other. "Isn't it September. 19th -- International Talk desire a steal Day?" Yes. I guess today was better. I'm sure it was exceed than my sister's day. Or the. I was going to do some visiting after my go.
