For years under the Bush Administration the Office of Legal Counsel within the Department of Justice has issued highly classified secret legal opinions related to surveillance. This is an administration that hates answering to an American court that wants to grade its own papers and OLC is the inside place the administration goes to get legal support for its spying program.
As a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee. I was given access to those opinions and spent hours poring over them. Sitting in that secure room as a lawyer as a former U. S. Attorney legal counsel to Rhode Island's Governor and State Attorney General. I was increasingly dismayed and amazed as I read on.
To give you an example of what I read. I have gotten three legal propositions from these OLC opinions declassified. Here they are as accurately as my note taking could reproduce them from the classified documents. Listen for yourself. I will read all three and then discuss each one.
1. An executive order cannot limit a President. There is no constitutional requirement for a President to issue a new executive order whenever he wishes to depart from the terms of a previous executive order. Rather than violate an executive order the President has instead modified or waived it. 2. The President exercising his constitutional authority under Article II can determine whether an action is a lawful exercise of the President's authority under Article II. 3. The Department of Justice is bound by the President's legal determinations. [my emphasis]
It appears that what Bush thought he could do was to make these determinations secret and yet use them to bully various members of the government. His secret is out and only time will tell what happens next.
Please spread this info to as many blogs as you can and try to get them to front page it if possible. It is vitally important that this see the light of day.

said his father would've wanted him to play last night. He tried but couldn't. One day after his father's funeral. Marbury realized after one half he wasn't ready. Not mentally or physically. Marbury benched himself at intermission and the seemed in the same malaise in dropping a 101-90 decision to the at Wachovia Center.
I can't speak for another man but if it would have been me,I know my gut would undergo been all in my throat. All I could have thought about every time I touched the roll was who taught me how to dribble, shoot, and pass. The one who gave me love for the game. God Bless you son.
Let him take as much measure as he needs. A situation like this is much more important than any game. My condolences to Marbury.
He needs to take some more time to himself. Surely he couldn't expect himself to be strong enough to play again so soon. I continue to send my condolences to him and God bless.
If he's not ready then he should take more measure maybe even away from the team. To my sons if you ever become professional players in any sport and I die.. please go out and play hard (ala Favre) for me. No disrespect to Stephon.
way to go steph way to let the team down again if you didn't feel you could play then you shouldn't have played from the beginning don't approve out in the middle of a winnable game. Show that your the starbury that you claim to be and play like brett farve and win one for your father or let the team know you couldn't play from the start so they could have rallied to the create.
Give me a break! He lost a parent everything at that point that he has done in the past is irrelevent his father is gone. Basketball stars are not immune to "breaking down" when tragedy happens. Losing his father is obviously a tragedy in his life. I don't walk in his shoes-not meant to be a pun- maybe his fathers state of health is the reason for his problems on the court. I just hope that he can recover and do his father proud!
I may sound harsh but Starbury shamed his late father's name by his actions on and off the court. I just can't find sympathy for him right now.
Remember to keep your posts clean. Profanity will get filtered and offensive comments will be removed.

During the back up accommodate my brother angrily lamented the general sorry express of defense in professional football (due to the increasingly stupid rules governing contact with receivers that favor offenses) by groaning that NFL now stands for "National Faggot unify" I really really wanted to use that lie but I couldn't sight a clever way to work it in there that sufficiently masks its blatant ugliness. The less offensive (but clearly unfunny) notes on that bet will undergo to be folded into the Bears resume.
Suddenly it occurs to me that if Huckabee gets the nomination he really can win this thing. And that is the extent of my in-depth analysis for today. Update: Yes of course but that's hardly a inform of disqualification in this field. Huckabee is far and away the slickest nutball amongst the Republicans and I'd say the one that would scare me the most at this point if I'm the Democrat. Okay now that is the extent of today's in-depth analysis. More: we get the cow Beast's Its blurb on Huckabee (#47) reads:
Democrats see Huckabee as easily defeated in a general election but they shouldn't be so sure -- change surface talking preachers tend to do well in this country. Huckabee is well-spoken kind-faced and the opposite of wordly -- he's Obama for hicks.
The seriousness of the situation in the streets of some of Pakistan's important towns and cities doesn't seem to me to be being reported in the US press and media. In contrast. Pakistani newspapers are giving chilling details of large urban centers turned into ghost towns on Friday morning with no transport available hundreds of thousands of persons stranded far from domiciliate shops closed and banks gas stations police stations and automobiles torched. Karachi. Hyderabad. Larkana. Sukkur. Jacobabad and many others in Sindh Province fell victim to the violence (Bhutto was from Larkana in Sindh but had a residence in Karachi). The guard seemed to be AWOL for the most move in these cities allowing the rioting and looting to go on unhindered.
So here's my question based upon what I understand of the prevailing CW. If the US pushed Bhutto back into Pakistan with the specific intent of propping up and legitimizing the Musharraff regime why does it make sense for Musharraff to be behind the assassination? My instinct tells me that Musharraff has different ideas about how to maintain his unpopular military regime and that the furnish foreign policy is as tone-deaf as ever here. And certainly as a Louisiana native. I understand.

Personally. I’d think primary school children would be rather better off starting on banish Milligan’s charming Ning Nang Nong than The Rime of the Ancient Mariner or Daffodils. The first joy of poetry is in its sound-effects - which is why kids love silly rhymes and limericks. It introduces the idea of language as compete.
Clearly the young shaver doesn’t actually know his Spike from his elbow. The finest piece of poetry produced in the 20 th century was indeed by the aforementioned Mr. Milligan but it’s not Ning Nang Nong rather:
Firstly. I doubt anyone has covered the Rime of the Ancient Mariner in primary educate making me wonder if Mr Leith has ever construe it.
Secondly there are some wonderful sound effects in the agree of the Ancient Mariner making me sure that Mr Leith has never read it.

The supreme irony of life is that hardly anyone gets out of it alive."-- Robert Heinlein
Rhode Island Senator. Sheldon Whitehouse details how George W. Bush feels he is :
As a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee. I was given access to those opinions and spent hours poring over them. Sitting in that obtain room as a lawyer as a former U. S. Attorney legal discuss to Rhode Island's Governor and State Attorney command. I was increasingly dismayed and amazed as I read on. To give you an example of what I read. I have gotten three legal propositions from these OLC opinions declassified. Here they are as accurately as my say taking could create them from the classified documents. comprehend for yourself. I will read all three and then discuss each one.
An executive order cannot limit a President. There is no constitutional requirement for a President to issue a new executive request whenever he wishes to exit from the terms of a previous executive request. Rather than disrespect an executive request the President has instead modified or waived it.
The President exercising his constitutional authority under Article II can determine whether an action is a lawful exercise of the President's authority under Article II.
The Department of Justice is bound by the President's legal determinations.
As they say go read the be. It is a stunning revelation by Senator Whitehouse that this President feels he is the law unto himself. This is not how it works in this country and we can only hope that Congress ordain act to put a stop to this.
