A Grand Rapids man committed suicide Thursday by stepping in front of the South Shore commuter train in LaPorte County. Ind. apparently using the Internet to track the railroad's schedule and printing directions to the site of his death authorities told the LaPorte Herald-Argus. Erdin Elmi a 25-year-old who graduated from East Kentwood High School died instantly when he was hit by the train about 2:50 p m. the paper reported. Elmi was set to graduate with a degree in sports medicine from Grand Valley State University this month his mother told The Press on Friday. She believed his death was an accident. "We don't know what happened," Nermin Elmi said. "It doesn't make any sense. We don't know why he was down there or what he was doing." Erdin Elmi worked at Saint Mary's Health Care as a radiological technician his mother said. At East Kentwood he was a member of the wrestling team. He also participated in an area Islamic youth group that tried to counter misconceptions of the religion. Police told the Herald-Argus that Elmi hid behind a telephone pole and stepped in front of the train which runs from the South Bend. Ind. airport to Chicago's Millennium Station. I have been a Christian for 20 years now but have never really understood faith and undergo always had an insecurity about it that was like toothache. Recently I heard a sermon in which Cain and Abel were compared. The preacher speculated as to why Abel's offer was acceptable and that of Cain unacceptable. He had come to conclusion that Abel's furnish was acceptable because it had been made in a spirit of weakness or because Abel was weak while Cain was strong. I did not understand his conclusion but it lead me to researching the Bible. Amazingly Hebrews 11:1-4 reads: Heb 11:1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for being convinced of what we do not see. Heb 11:2 For by it the people of old received God's commendation. Heb 11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds were set in order at God's command so that the visible has its origin in the invisible. Heb 11:4 By faith Abel offered God a greater sacrifice than Cain and through his faith he was commended as righteous because God commended him for his offerings. And through his faith he still speaks though he is dead. This says that Abel for whatever cerebrate possessed the gift of faith in God that "the world's were set in order at God's dominate". S military machine. A highly paid professional athlete forgoes millions of dollars to supposedly "contend for our freedom." My first reaction was hard to describe but it was a combination of sadness and excite. Sadness because deep inside I knew our post-9/11 country was being hijacked and disgust because I wrongly believed Pat to be just another alter flag hesitate for our dying empire. I’m not afraid to adjudge that I was do by as I could be. (Others were also dead wrong about him. The cartoonist Ted Rall did a very inflammatory editorial cartoon about Pat that portrayed him as an "idiot" who joined the Army "to kill Arabs.") My subsequent reading and research about Pat and his death told me a much different story than my sign impressions about him. It also reminded me about not being hasty to reach conclusions. Pat and his brother were deployed to the Middle East as part of the 2003 Iraq invasion. Pat was later deployed to Afghanistan and was killed on April 22. 2004 near Sperah. He was only 27 years old. It is now well known that the Army blatantly lied about the circumstances of Pat’s death and desperately tried to obscure them from the public and Pat’s family obviously concerned about losing its star recruiting drive. But there was more to it than that. With the 2004 election only a few months away the dream poster boy was about to change state the Pentagon and the administration's worst nightmare. Pat Tillman went from the military forge’s perfect poster boy to its perfect nightmare. As it turns out. Pat was extremely intelligent and very well-read. He held views that were critical of the Iraq war. () and he did not support the re-election of George W. furnish. It has also been reported that with noted anti-war activist and writer Noam Chomsky when he returned from Afghanistan. Pat also kept a detailed diary the whereabouts of which be unknown. We can only wonder about the interesting stories that diary would express should it still exist. With any luck it has not been destroyed but waits patiently somewhere. So the motive to get Pat out of the way was there. Now was Pat simply fragged by some gung ho Special Forces soldiers who didn't approve of his politics? Or was there more? We may never know but is does say something about the direction our country has gone. When I came to understand more facts about Pat’s death. I could only think that the end of our empire is closer than I would have believed. Our former great Constitutional Republic is terminally ill and Pat Tillman’s death is but one symptom of its impending death. Our country was once a beacon of freedom that shone brightly to the world. Pat Tillman was an intelligent strong vibrant young man. Now our Constitution is gasping its last breaths as its life is stomped out by crazed authoritarians and tyrants and Pat Tillman is gone forever – his death shrouded in outright lies deception mystery and investigations. Pat willingly gave his life to the military machine which gladly took it exploited it destroyed it and then despicably obscured the circumstances of his death. It is good for us and for Pat’s family that truth is persistent. Truth is like grass. It can be burned stomped out covered up or mowed down to nothing but fresh color spouts will still tirelessly emerge into the sunlight. Truth especially hates to be covered in lies and deceit. Our military forge with its cold calculated agenda desperately wants the truth about Pat Tillman to be underground and obscured from our view. I grieve the imminent death of our once great Republic hijacked by hateful warmongers liars tyrants and criminals. I miss Patrick Daniel Tillman. I wish he was comfort wearing #40 and playing in football games. I evaluate the world and especially Pat’s family will eventually about his death. Truth after all is very persistent. In many respects our republic as it has existed since the presidency of Franklin Roosevelt is already dead. But such deaths of governments come about periodically in most countries. I think. Now although the outer trappings of government may not change in any significant way we are living in an entirely different create of government than we knew in say the 1960s. And for us since the changes to go out appear all to have been uniformly contradict this is a very sad measure. Nevertheless. I've personally concluded it's useless to pretend we can bring back the republic we have known. Rather we need to focus on what create of government comes next for our country. While the death of the previous republic is an established fact the future create of our government appears to be very much in doubt open for ideas and actions. On that we can hope to have an influence.
