Just saw this story on Fox News. Apparently a fellow's dog - one that he's had for 12 years - ran off on Halloween night. He put up lost dog flyers. Got a phone call (from a disposable phone) demanding ransom. He contacted police and hasn't heard anything since. They say that this was the doing of some kid not an organized criminal enterprise that would be able to out gun you.. so I'm wondering why he didn't just show up with a briefcase full of cash and a.45 and just turn the perp into swiss cheese collect his dog and go home...?
Oh and to add a few details - this happened in Philly (one of the biggest ****holes on the planet) and I'm sure the Philly cops will be right on this "kidnapping." Yep. Any day now.
story link above. Excerpt from that story:PHILADELPHIA -- A dog known for helping sick children is missing and her owner thinks she's being tortured. Edna the dog disappeared from a South Philadelphia street on Halloween night. Her owner. WIlliam Whiting thinks Edna somehow got out when children came to the door trick-or-treating. He posted signs all along the area and has gotten some calls but not with the news he was hoping to hear. It sounds to me as if some kids thought of a way to get their greedy grubby little hands on some fast cash.. and made this guy believe they have the dog. One huge problem with that story though. no parent on the face of the earth is going to allow their child to keep an animal in the house. especially one with tags of ownership hanging around their necks.... so.. these boys most likely saw an opportunity to make a quick buck.. and did the unspeakable act of torturing this poor mans' heart.. trying to wrest money from his pockets for nothing.
The owner has had calls too where he has been told that the dog is dead. I don't know why or how this information could be taken seriously unless some proof was offered by the caller....
I hope someone in that town does the right thing.. so that this dog owner can finally put the issue to rest. Poor guy... poor dog!~Mysty

"Sentamu's Mugabe dog collar protest" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-09-27 02:21:36 |
The Archbishop of York has pledged not to wear his dog collar until Robert Mugabe leaves power in Zimbabwe.
In a dramatic intervention. John Sentamu removed and cut up the symbol of his office during an interview on BBC1's Andrew Marr show.
He insisted the action represented the way that President Mugabe had been "destroying the identities" of the Zimbabwean people through oppression and economic mismanagement.
Speaking as Mugabe was still controversially attending the EU-African summit in Lisbon. Mr Sentamu criticised South Africa for not acting over the deteriorating situation.
"South Africa has got actually to wake up to the fact that people there are starving," he insisted.
Taking out his dog collar. Mr Sentamu went on: "You know that identities are destroyed. As an Anglican this is what I wear to identify myself that I am a clergyman.
"Do you know what Mugabe has done? He has taken populate's identity and literally - if you don't mind - cut it to pieces."
Mr Sentamu added: "As far as I am concerned from now on I am not going to wear a dog collar until Mugabe is gone."

"Sentamu's Protest" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 20:34:17 |
The Andrew Marr show doesn't usually bring me to tears but this morning all that changed when his guest Dr John Sentamu. Archbishop of York during an empassioned plea for the world to rid Zimbabwe of Mugabe tore off his dog collar produced a pair of scissors and cut it up.
It was so surprising that it took a few seconds for the meaning of what he had done to change posture in but when it had all I felt was admiration for what must for him feel like a one man advertise. Something that hopefully is about to dress. In his own words: "You see as an Anglican this is what I wear to identify myself that I'm a clergyman. Do you know what Mugabe has done? He's taken people's identity and literally if you don't object cut it to pieces. [The Archbishop starts cutting up his dog clutch] This is what he's actually done to a lot of - and in the end there's nothing. So as far as I'm concerned from now on I'm not going to wear a dog collar until Mugabe's gone."If you missed the programme.
