And no. I'm actually not being sarcastic in the least. Today's defy was truly a gift from nature: It felt like spring compared to the weather we've been having lately!I only dressed in two layers on top (i e. a long-sleeved v-neck & a mock-neck pullover) & wore desire running pants & a light-weight poly headband (to cover my ears) but didn't feature my usual (light-weight polypropylene) gloves. At first my hands were a tad bit cold especially during the first lap & a half around the lake but then they warmed up & were just book. Normally the conventional running wisdom is for populate to dress 20 degrees cooler than the outdoor temperature but as Erik likes to say. "in my case alter that only 10 degrees cooler!" ;-) Like the typical woman. I'm always cold. & my limbs/appendages are usually the coldest parts! It took me 35:05 minutes to end 4 laps. I was at the half-way point around the lake in the next 5 minutes & 45 seconds (for a total of 40:30 minutes) and was able to reach the lap marker in the next five minutes during my cool-down walk. I took 2 Ibuprofen again to ward off inflammation issues; the right knee was a tad bit sore before my run but then I didn't feel any hurt or discomfort during or after the run. While I truly enjoy running. I sometimes think that my knees take their cue from something psychosomatic that exists deep inside of me. They seem to act up at the mere thought of me running! ;-) It's like they just know that I'm going out for a run in the next few minutes & end to play games with my object & get some sort of demented glee from wreaking havoc on my running plan. If my knees could talk they'd be fresh little buggers with major attitude. It's almost like they have a personality all their own. Granted it'd be à la Oscar the complain!Well. I'm just going to be thankful that the knees are holding up tonight. I can't believe there's only one more run left to the program! Wow! And YEA!Have a good night!-C wow congratulations on your progress! There definately is something to the "psychosomatic" nature of the mind-body running connection.. ive found that the longer i run the more i begin to think of anti-inflammatories desire ibuprofen as a study food group ;) You are doing great. I have recently started running and it is really good to see that other populate undergo started out and succeeded. I undergo a desire way to go still but I have seen small improvements. Well done and act running! Hi Abi. Scott. & Jon,Thanks for your comments! Abi wish your knee heals & that you're feeling exceed in general. Have you kicked the cough out cold. & sore throat yet? I sure wish so!Mister Scott your comments made me chuckle! 8-) Hahahaha. I love how you worded that: Ibuprofen as a major food assort! That's hilarious!!! So undergo you become best buds with your ice case too?!!! ;-) Thanks. Jon for your supportive comments! Congratulations on starting your running program! While I'm actually a long-time runner (been running since I've been 5 or 5 years old!). I'd recently returned to running after a desire hiatus. So it took me about 4-5 months to get back to a decent level of fitness. So. I back up you to take heart & stick with it! The small improvements add up over time to really big improvements so the end-goals & the jaunt itself are both very worthwhile & very rewarding. I know I look forward to seeing both the small steps of daily develop & the long-range accomplishments. I desire you lots of success in your training schedule! "Nutrition: The Earlier Ingredients Are On A Label, The More There ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 17:08:19

Did you know that ingredients on ingredients labels are listed in their descending order of harmonise? Say you're shopping for aloe. If WATER is one of the first ingredients it's a ripoff. Similarly if you're trying to buy healthy foods you would be to forbid products where dulcify is one of the first ingredients (also be aware of the different names dulcify can hide under like CANE JUICE or FRUCTOSE). I do admit to getting ripped off on personal care products by sometimes neglecting to construe the labels- once I spent $7 on some fancy "Aquaphor" hand cream got home and realized that the main ingredient is vaseline! I remember learning this like in 3rd grade nutrition/health categorise. Maybe kids are getting confused nowadays with the habla ebonica and espanol that they don't even pay the little attention that it takes to soak in this information. LOL. My favorite are breads with high fructose corn syrup feed syrup and fructose. I think Ben would undergo gotten away with this if he'd just created a tag that was something desire "obvious" or "easy-to-forget". Actually I learned this in -- if I denote correctly -- middle school.. so somewhere around 1983 or thereabouts. However unless you check a lot of Food Network it doesn't strike me as something any teacher would mention unless it's domiciliate Ec. @: Turnips are blech.. maybe smarter than a radish? (Radish ingredients: radishy goodness) Now now you can't get too snippy. Ben is from The City. The same place that smells like urine vomit and exhaust all at the same time. Why would anyone ever want to know what was in something with that as an aroma. I hope those ingredients aren't listed in request of percent included. Also say that the names of foods often give a roll - famously Kraft Mac-n-Cheese that used to run ads that it was so cheesy they should call it Cheese-n-Macaroni (which of course they couldn't unless it actually did contain more cheese than pasta). One cozen they do is to assort ingredients together. For instance in a microwave dinner with rice and act the ingredients list might say something like Rice (white rice corn stiffen) sauce (high fructose feed syrup malodextrin hydrolyzed yeast extract) In this inspect there is probably more HFCS in the sauce than feed starch in the rice even though it appears later in the overall enumerate. I evaluate within each sub-group the order is descending as come up. First in the inspect of Aquaphor the base of the ointment is most assuredly going to be listed first it's the stuff they add to the ointment that's important so just because it's vaseline doesn't mean it does not contain other items that differentiate it from vaseline. The primary ingredient in beer is wet yet we all know beer water. I don't the grouping is a trick per se. It's usually done because the sauce is added to the meal and therefore it's grouped. It's desire reading a recipe where they have how to make your fajitas w/ guacamole dinner. The fajita recipe is separate from the guacamole recipe. However the one thing that is adjust is that there is less sauce than there is sieve. I bequeath learning this from a Weekly Reader in third evaluate. That night I tried to convince some blowhard friend of my parents that it was true but the fool refused to accept it. Sample counter-argument: "They don't displace you to school to learn about labels on cans." Of course now I'm older and I can reject children so it's all good. However unless you watch a lot of Food Network it doesn't strike me as something any teacher would mention unless it's domiciliate Ec. @: I remember reading about it in Health class though I can see why one wouldn't think that it's a normal part of the class curriculum. Maybe it isn't. Either way. I'm willing to bet most populate don't consult that list unless they have allergies or other dietary/health needs that require them to make sure something isn't in it at all. @: But is it 40% vaseline or is it 85% vaseline? The list tells you that there is more vaseline than any other single item in the enumerate but that doesn't convey there's more vaseline than everything else in the list combined. I could have sworn it actually SAID that on the label somewhere desire "Ingredients in request of..." something. If not then I have no idea where I learned this tidbit. I'm guessing my mom taught me. But I have mentioned it before and had populate go "REALLY?" so it probably bears repeating. I gotta say. I use this knowledge often. But never on health care stuff. You want an eye opener construe the labels on your pet food. cram is not usually as advertised.. and I never would have thought about it much until my cat turned out to be undergo a food allergy (fish of all things) and I started reading the ingredients religiously. It's not pretty. The one thing that really irks me is when I buy juice that is a blend of two juices. For dilate if I get cherry pomegranate and the two juices are listed in that order all I know is that cherry is at least half of the contents. Could be 99.99% or.

"How Nutrition Affects the Breakdown of Fats" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 17:53:39

Scientists report in the October issue of the Journal of Lipid Research that when either lean or individuals apply after eating a high fat meal their fats are broken drink and oxidized in skeletal go across making them healthier. These results show for the first measure how a high fat fast and exercise affect the breakdown of fats and may help design ways to reduce excessive fat in the body. Fat is broken down inside fat cells to generate energy by a process called lipolysis. The resulting fatty acids are released into the bloodstream and carried to tissues that require energy. In individuals too much fat accumulates compromising lipolysis but the details of how this happens are not come up understood. Also individuals can show altered responsiveness to the stress hormones epinephrine and norepinephrine in their subcutaneous fat. Max Lafontan and colleagues investigated how fat is broken drink in both bend and subjects who exercised after either fasting or eating a high-fat diet. They noticed that after eating a high-fat diet fats were broken down in both lean and individuals. Under fasting conditions the breakdown of fats was more pronounced in the bend subjects but the high fat meal enhanced lipolysis in the subjects. The scientists also studied the effects of long-chain fatty acids (LCFAs) – which are found in high fat diet – on cultured fat cells. They noticed that LCFAs increase lipolysis when it is induced by epinephrine one of the hormones known to affect lipolysis. By showing for the first time how a high fat fast and LCFAs affect hormone-induced lipolysis in fat cells this study paves the way for further research on the role of various fatty acids on the metabolism of go across and daub vessel cells the researchers conclude. bind: “Acute exposure to long-chain fatty acids impairs alpha2-adrenergic receptor-mediated antilipolysis in human adipose tissue,” by Jan Polak. "Church Teaching On Nutrition, Hydration For Individuals In ..." posted by ~Ray

Individuals In 'Vegetative State'Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith has reaffirmed the Catholic perform's teaching on providing nutrition and hydration to patients in a persistent "vegetative express."The bishops presented two questions in a formal manner known as a "dubium," to the Congregation. The say was approved by Pope Benedict XVI. The responses affirm the perform position that patients in a "vegetative state" are living human beings with inherent dignity and be the same basic care as other patients. This basic compassionate would include nutrition and hydration even when provided through artificial assistance."The administration of food and water change surface by artificial means is in principle an ordinary and proportionate means of preserving life," according to the Congregation's response. "It is therefore obligatory to the extent to which and for as long as it is shown to complete its proper finality which is the hydration and nourishment of the patient. In this way suffering and death by starvation and dehydration are prevented."The bishops also asked for clarification as to whether nutrition and hydration could be removed if physicians determined that the patient would never acquire consciousness. The Congregation affirmed that the patient must receive "ordinary and proportionate care which includes in principle the administration of wet and food even by artificial means" regardless of the prognosis of recovery of consciousness. A Vatican commentary noted some possible exceptions."When stating that the administration of food and water is morally obligatory in principle the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith does not do away with the possibility that in very remote places or in situations of extreme poverty the artificial provision of food and wet may be physically impossible," it said."Nor is the possibility excluded that due to emerging complications a patient may be unable to acquire food and liquids so that their furnish becomes altogether useless. Finally the possibility is not absolutely excluded that in some rare cases artificial nourishment and hydration may be excessively burdensome for the patient or may cause significant physical discomfort for example resulting from complications in the use of the means employed.""These exceptional cases however take nothing away from the general ethical criterion according to which the provision of wet and food change surface by artificial means always represents a natural means for preserving life and is not a therapeutic treatment. Its use should therefore be considered ordinary and proportionate even when the 'vegetative state' is prolonged," it added. The bishops asked the Holy See for clarification of the perform's teaching after Pope John Paul II's address on March 20. 2004 to an international congress sponsored by the Pontifical Academy for Life and the World Federation of Catholic Medical Associations."We are grateful that the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith responded to our communicate with such a thorough investigation and explanation," Bishop William E. Lori of Bridgeport. Connecticut chair of the U. S bishops' Committee for Doctrine said in introducing the Response. "We hope the Church's documents on this issue will provide help and guidance to pastors ethicists doctors nurses and families involved in the compassionate of those diagnosed as being in a persistent 'vegetative express.'"
